Punt Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

I last tasted this cabernet sauvignon from Punt Road in the Yarra Valley in 2010, finding it pretty good.  A final bottle was re-discovered in the cellar on Sunday night to be consumed unceremoniously out of a plastic glass.  It unexpectedly proved to be very good indeed.  The wine has evolved to resemble a left bank Bordeaux in form and structure, with unforced cedar and blackcurrant notes featuring on the nose and palate, and no minty or decay notes to be seen.  It left an impression of medium bodied elegance and balance, posing a question in passing as to why I neglect to purchase more Yarra Valley cabernet.

Rating: Good to Very Good, Abv: 14%, Price: $20s, Vendors: http://www.wine-searcher.com/, Website: http://www.puntroadwines.com.au, Tasted: 2014
