Oddly enough, sometimes it’s the wines I enjoy regularly that I forget to write about. Chinon fills a certain spot for me, and the 2012 vintage of Bernard Baudry’s Les Granges doesn’t disappoint. A medium intensity ruby in colour, it has aromatics that remind of raspberry, game, stems, deli meats and tobacco. The palate has high acid, fine grained tannins that impart more mouthfeel with time in the glass, medium body and flavours of mostly raspberry, game and tobacco. This is quite a compact and complex wine, with a medium length finish from a producer I regularly return to. (Abv: 12%, Rating: Good, Tasted: Feb, 2014)
