Montalto’s “Montalto” chardonnay is bright in the glass, with a pale intensity lemon colour. It has light aromatics of struck match, lemon, stone fruit kernels and lemon rind. The palate has high acid, medium body and flavours of lemon rind, sour lemon, stone and medium length with some suggestions of dilution in terms of depth of flavour. I wasn’t entirely convinced by this wine which appeared more entry level in comparison with its siblings, namely the very good “The Eleven” 2012 chardonnay and the complex “Hawkins Hill” 2012 chardonnay. That said, it’s otherwise balanced and the length is quite good. Acceptable to Good
