Main & Cherry is a new label situated in the Adelaide Hills that is worth following on this offering. The wine is made by Michael Sexton from a blend of Adelaide Hills (82%) and McLaren Vale (18%) shiraz, the grapes handpicked and the wine matured in older American oak without filtration or fining. The result is a good one, surmounting the difficult 2011 vintage in this region.
A deep intensity purple colour in the glass, the wine opens to brooding aromatics of anise, liquorice, undergrowth and chocolate-mint biscuit. The palate has balanced acidity and an enjoyable expression of chocolate, mint, plum and anise, and medium length on the finish. I felt that this wine achieved an attractive balance between its component parts of fruit, acid and alcohol, and frankly, I liked it. Good
