Clover Hill Vintage Brut Pipers River 2003

This is the best Clover Hill sparkling release that I have reviewed to date.  Mature now at 10 years old, it is yellow-gold in colour with fine and persistent bubbles.

The aromatics are very attractive, with Champagne like expressions of biscuit, yeast and almond meal, supplemented with manuka honey, the latter a local flourish.  The palate sees high acid, and chardonnay driven notes of citrus, a persistent yeast driven character and a between delicate and creamy mousse.  Well stored bottles of this constitute a very good sparkling wine indeed, highlighting what can be achieved from this estate in the Piper’s River region in north eastern Tasmania.  Clover Hill is part of the stable managed by Goelet Wine Estates, which includes Clos du Val in the Napa Valley and Taltarni in the (Victorian) Pyrenees.  Very Good
