Chateau de Mauvin Sauternes 2006

There are some good Sauternes out there that aren’t from the well known names.   Even though this wine will be difficult to find in Australia, I thought it worth writing up, as it presents very well and illustrates this point.   The Australian trilogy of distance, high taxes and small market size as ever acts as a handbrake on my wine consumerist fantasies.

This particular Sauternes is all about homey and melon aromatics.  The palate shows medium length, evident botrytis character, with marmalade and honey to the fore, and an overall pleasing sense of balance between acid and fruit – neither cloying nor hard.  A Sauternes worth drinking.  Good to Very Good
