Bimbadgen Estate is a winery situated in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales that produce a number of styles from a number of grape varieties. It is not a winery that I have been hitherto familiar with.
Bimbadgen’s 2011 Estate shiraz viognier is a quite lightly coloured ruby in appearance. It did not show particularly well aromatically initially, with a raw spirity and volatile character to the fore, presumably from the viognier, a grape that can be a demanding master. However, on the second day, the wine had settled down to reveal more classic medium intensity aromatics of earth, plums, herbs, popcorn oil and a spirity apricot note, and remains youthful. The palate has some sweet plums, some apricots, and short length, but never really got going beyond a plain expression of character. This wine is suitable for uncritical drinking. Acceptable
