Lark Hill Pinot Noir 2011

I think Lark Hill are doing some very exciting things with their biodynamically grown vines in the Canberra region, and I’ve liked most of what I’ve seen.  I wasn’t however entirely convinced by their 2011 pinot noir.  A light intensity ruby in colour, it opens to a soft but developing fragrance of light cherries, light herbs, grass, a bit of clove, graphite and a sprinkling of pepper.  Ready to drink now, it has a soft intensity of flavour with shadows of cherries, herbs and pepper, tasting a little dilute.   Certainly perfectly drinkable, but perhaps inevitability reflecting its season – a challenging one in the case of 2011.  Acceptable
