D’Arenberg’s “Dead Arm” Shiraz is one of McLaren Vale’s top wines. The name “Dead Arm” is a colloquial expression for eutypa dieback, an infection of the vine that can concentrate the grapes, at the cost of the vine. The 2007 vintage does not disappoint, cellared since purchase at release. Tasted at 18 years’ of age, the wine has aromas of raisins, prunes, dark chocolate and roast meats.  It is typical of McLaren Vale at its best. The palate has flavours reminding of plum skins and dark plums, with a little mint and coffee. It finishes with long length.  Still evolving, this wine is outstanding drinking.
