Rueda is a Spanish regional wine that is made mostly from verdejo and can be blended with sauvignon blanc. There are typically few on Australian retail shelves. The wine seems more popular in international markets, such as the UK. Where does it fit? Somewhere in the middle. It’s a less complex wine than Spain’s white wine gift to the world, albariño from Rias Biaxas. It has lower acidity than typical Italian white wines and is plumper than most northern European styles. This Rueda wine from Telmo Rodriguez and labelled “Basa” has green herbal aromas. It reminds of cooler climate sauvignon blanc or even gruner veltliner. The palate however is dry, medium to full bodied and the acidity medium-high. This pivots the wine to its warmer Spanish origin and unique blend of grape varieties. This sound wine will suit current drinking. Review Rating: Good (★★★, 85 points). Website: NA. Tasted: January 2025. Like: Subscribe.
