Santa Macarena Chile Pinot Noir 2019

There aren’t many Chilean pinot noirs in Australia. This wine is from the Valle de Aconcagua, a warm to hot region north of Santiago and more associated with warm climate varieties of cabernet sauvignon, syrah and merlot. However, this particular vineyard is 5 kilometres from the coast, where the climate is substantially cooler due to fog and cold ocean currents and is suited to pinot noir. In the glass, the wine has new world pinot noir aromas of cherry and saturated plums. The green notes I usually taste in Chilean wine are absent. The palate is medium bodied and fleshy. The alcohol is 14.0. Overall, this is a good pinot noir that will reward current drinking. Rating: ★★★. Tasted: November 2022.
