Bakkheia have produced a very enjoyable grenache, shiraz and mourvedre (GSM) blend here from the Geographe region in Western Australia. The 2011 vintage is in fact a blend of 10% grenache, 65% shiraz, 20% mourvedre and 5% graciano, the latter of which is a low yielding Spanish grape with plantings mostly in Rioja. So, I guess it’s more of an SMGG. Somewhat less catchy though. The wine has a medium intensity ruby in colour and aromatics of earth, plum, Christmas cake, dried herbs, stone, mulberry and a touch of menthol. On the palate, the length is medium to long, and has great fruit definition, with both power and balance achieved, of plum, mulberry and cedar. Overall, this is a good to very good wine due to its balance, length and concentration of fruit on the palate. One to buy. Good to Very Good
