Chateau Tour St Bonnet is from the Médoc appellation, and is a label that I’ve seen a couple of times now on Australian shores.
From the stellar 2009 vintage, this wine is a medium to pronounced intensity ruby colour, and is a blend of 45% cabernet sauvignon, 45% merlot, 5% petit verdot and 5% malbec. Its aroma is quite classic – a medium intensity expression of blackcurrants and cedar, perhaps with a more primary fruit character than is usual for a left bank Bordeaux – reflecting presumably the ripe vintage. On the palate, this is a balanced wine – medium (fine grained) tannins (perhaps even slightly more tannic than this), medium length, cloves, cedar and again blackcurrants feature. It appears built to last a few years, so I would perhaps give this another three to five years before starting to drink it. Very good overall, in a classic left bank Bordeaux kind of way. 86-87 points (very good)
