Château de Ferrand Saint-Emilion Review

This wine is from Château de Ferrand, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé and the 2021 vintage in Bordeaux. It’s quite a different style to the recently reviewed Château Corbin. This wine is more restrained, with brooding blackcurrant aromas.  The palate has quite firm tannins and a long life ahead. Merlot is sometimes thought of as a softer, less tannic style, and this wine is a blend of 64% merlot, 35% cabernet franc and 1% cabernet sauvignon. But as a Bordeaux grape variety, merlot is more than capable of being tannic and this wine comes across as more left bank Bordeaux in style. Drink this serious wine over the next decade.  Review Rating: Good to Very Good (★★★☆, 89 points). Website: Château de Ferrand. Tasted: March 2026.  Like: Subscribe.
