Oremus Mandolás Furmint Review

Oremus Mandolás Furmint 2020 Review

I don’t taste a lot of dry furmint wines from Hungary.  Based on this wine, that is something of an omission, though it may not surprise that there is not a deep pool of Hungarian furmint available in Australia.  Try it if you are thinking about opening a Chablis, Italian white or riesling. This wine is from Oremus Mandolás, which is owned by Spain’s most famous producer, Vega Sicilia. Furmint is Hungary’s pinnacle white wine variety and the main grape variety in Tokaji sweet wine, but here it is presented as a single variety and dry white wine.  In the glass, the wine extremely good, and opens to precise aromas of stones and minerals. The palate reveals a tangy, medium bodied wine with notes of orange blossom and stones on the finish. Its very high acidity adds freshness. Drink this complex wine now and over the next few years.  Review Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 92 points). Website: Tempos Vega Sicilia. Tasted: February 2026.  Like: Subscribe.
