This is a very good Lalande de Pomerol from Château Chevrol Bel Air in Bordeaux and the 2019 vintage. It’s a blend of merlot (45%), cabernet franc (45%) and the remainder cabernet sauvignon and malbec. There is a little more cabernet franc than is usual for a Lalande and this expresses itself in the wine’s initial leafy aroma. With time in the glass, the wine reveals plums, a full body and blackcurrant with textured fruit. Lalande de Pomerol is an adaptable wine that fills the niche sitting between serious but not too serious, softer tannins and more fruit than as typical for left bank Bordeaux and a savoury style of merlot not made outside of France and Italy. Decant this wine for 15 minutes to show its best. Review Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 90 points). Website: Château Chevrol Bel Air. Tasted: January 2026.  Like: Subscribe.
