Dirupi Rosso di Valtellina Nebbiolo 2018

From Valtellina in the far north of Lombardy and varietally labelled as nebbiolo. It’s a “Rosso”, so in theory an earlier drinking wine. It proves to be a very good nebbiolo after initially not appearing it had plans to amount to much. Aromas of strawberry compote and even raisined fruit blew off, showing a true “red berry” character of strawberries and sour red cherries. The palate is dry, with linear high acidity. Firm tannins envelope the sweet strawberry fruits. This wine is more interesting and has more structure than many Langhe nebbiolos. It’s ready to drink now for its attractive, well framed fruit. Its high acidity means there is no rush however. Rating: Good (★★). Reviewed: April 2022.
