2007 was a mixed vintage for riesling in the Clare Valley, with drought in winter and spring, and a relentless hot summer punctuated by a deluge at the end of January.  The harvest was very early.  This particular wine, the 2007 vintage of O’Leary Walker’s riesling, is already golden in colour, with aromatics of tangy lemon and lime, stone and talc.  The palate is consistent with its aromatic impression, with some lemon, lime, chalk and stone characters there, and a medium length finish.  Overall, this riesling from a warmer vintage is ready to drink now and certainly has some interest albeit perhaps fading just a little.  Rating: Acceptable to Good. Abv: 12.5%. Price: around $18 (current vintage). Website: http://olearywalkerwines.com. Tasted: August 2013.
