Babich’s Winemakers’ Reserve pinot noir is made from fruit sourced from Marlborough on the south island of New Zealand. I really quite like New Zealand and for New Zealand readers, I would note that there is still time to join us.
This pinot noir is well made. To generalise a bit, it fits into the box of a fairly classically styled fruit driven southern Australia/New Zealand interpretation of the pinot noir grape. Easy to drink, with above average quality and nice fruit, but it doesn’t particularly stand out. Its aromatics are of strawberries, raspberries, twigs and spice. It has medium length with savoury, moreish overtones on the palate. Flavours of strawberries and raspberries carry through and are supplemented by stems and stalks. Pretty good. Good
