Chateau Montrose 1982

The fill level was good.  The bottle appeared in good shape, a bit of gunk under the capsule, but not too bad.  Would the cork survive opening or break?  No, it opened cleanly – the French always seem to have those extra long corks that hold up to age … The moment of truth.  AContinue reading “Chateau Montrose 1982”

Vivens par Château Durfort-Vivens 2007

My interest in wine began with the wines of Bordeaux, and Margaux was one of the first wine regions that I firmly bonded with.  It is one of the largest appellations on the left bank in Bordeaux, and therefore its wines are often quite varied, depending on the site.  The best Margaux for me haveContinue reading “Vivens par Château Durfort-Vivens 2007”

Domaine du Crampilh Vieilles Vignes 2009

This wine is made from 100% tannat, and is from the home of that grape in Madiran, in the south west of France.  If you are wary of faux amis in French, happily tannat based wines tend to be quite tannic, and can show very well. This particular wine, a Madiran from Domaine du Crampilh,Continue reading “Domaine du Crampilh Vieilles Vignes 2009”
