Guido Porro Barolo Wine Review
This is an orthodox expression of Chianti Classico that would be a good choice for a blinding tasting. It has a refined aroma of licorice and earth. The palate has high acidity, medium tannins and medium length. Perhaps lacking some stuffing, but elegant and pleasant. Ready to drink now and over the next 5 years. … Continue Reading →
This is an excellent Valtellina wine from Nino Negri. It has swirling aromatics of florals and roses. The palate has a firm structure and high acidity. This nebbiolo is rather delicious and can be approached now or over the next decade. Rating: Very Good. Abv: NA. Price: mid $50s. Website: NA. Reviewed: January 2020.
Erste + Neue Pinot Grigio 2018 Wine Review
This is quite a youthful and restrained Chianti Classico from Castellare di Castellina and the 2017 vintage. It has aromas of redcurrants, red fruits and firm tannins. This wine will suit another 3-5 years in bottle before approaching it or a long decant. Rating: Good. Abv: 13.5%. Website: http://www.castellare.it. Reviewed: January 2020.
This sangiovese, a Rosso di Montalcino, has aromas of earth, cherry and a slight funkiness. The palate is full bodied and approachable now. Overall, this presented as a modest if pleasant wine, certainly with no angles, but I expected more depth and complexity at this price. Rating: Acceptable. Price: $50s. Abv: NA. In the glass, it has aromas of smoke and stone. The palate is dry, full bodied and the acidity medium. An approachable style… Continue Reading →
Girolamo Rosso appears to be a well regarded producer in the Etna region in Sicily. In the glass, the 2017 ‘a Rina Etna Rosso has a typically pale red cordial like colour consistent with nerello mascalese. I would have liked to say something more precise as to the grape varieties in the wine. But looking… Continue Reading →
