Domaine G. Roumier Clos de la Bussière Morey-Saint-Denis 2007

This is a refined Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussi√®re from Domaine Roumier and the 2007 vintage. Its aromas remind of redcurrant, iron filings, blackcurrant and are pure in expression. The palate has great length and, in terms of structure, expresses gentle acidity, a graceful balance and modest fruit intensity befitting the lighter 2007 vintage, Overall,Continue reading “Domaine G. Pascal Marchand-Tawse Bourgogne Rouge 2015

This is a very moreish Bourgogne from Pascal Marchand. From the highly regarded 2015 vintage, it is a good example of a Bourgogne rouge, if expensive. In the glass, it is faintly meaty, with raspberry notes. The palate is fleshy, medium bodied and with enough flavour and acidity to both resolutely signal Burgundy and interest.Continue reading “Pascal Marchand-Tawse Bourgogne Rouge 2015”

Georges DubŇďuf Beaujolais-Villages 2015

Georges DubŇďuf’s Beaujolais-Villages is an ever reliable expression of gamay. But the 2015 vintage tasted here seems a ‚Äústep up”, noting that this vintage is regarded as exceptional in the region. Deeply coloured in the glass, the 2015 opens to a fruity and exuberant aroma of sour cherries. The palate is medium bodied, fresh andContinue reading “Georges DubŇďuf Beaujolais-Villages 2015”

An outstanding Burgundy tasting of pre-2003s

I attended this amazing tasting back in April. ¬†It was almost a case study in outstanding premier cru¬†and grand cru¬†red Burgundy with 15 or more years of age on the wines. ¬†Only two wines missed the mark – one due to cork taint, the other presenting as simplistic (for a grand cru) due to suspectedContinue reading “An outstanding Burgundy tasting of pre-2003s”

Bernhard Huber Malterdinger Spätburgunder 2015

This is a very good pinot noir from Bernard Huber in Baden, Germany. ¬†Stylistically, it is much closer to Burgundy than new world pinot noir. ¬†Its aroma has herbal and cherry notes, and is both savoury and restrained. ¬†The palate has resolutely firm acidity and good length. ¬†Ready to drink now, this moreish pinot noir/sp√§tburgunderContinue reading “Bernhard Huber Malterdinger Sp√§tburgunder 2015”
