Daniel Bouland Corcelette Morgon 2011

Morgon is one of the Beaujolais region’s stronger appellations, and Daniel Bouland is one of Morgan’s better producers.  This is a good start.  Its colour points to its quality – quite a medium intensity ruby, that appears deep for both the grape variety (gamay) and the region.  Aromatically, this is quite a perfumed wine thatContinue reading “Daniel Bouland Corcelette Morgon 2011”

Pierre Naigeon Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru La Riotte 2009

From the Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru “La Riotte”, this is a pretty good sort of a pinot noir from the 2009 vintage.  Light in colour, it has aromatics that are savoury, reminding of cherry, game, cedar and wood spice.  The palate has medium length and body, and flavours of cherry, game meats and cedar.  There’s balance,Continue reading “Pierre Naigeon Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru La Riotte 2009”

Paul Durdilly Beaujolais 2011

Beaujolais, a part of Burgundy in name rather than perhaps reputation, faces its share of criticism, much of it deserved. Montalto Merricks Block Pinot Noir 2012

Domaine A et P de Villaine Mercurey Les Montots 2007

Aubert de Villaine, he of RomanĂ©e-Conti fame, established this particular domaine separately from his DRC interests. Management was handed over to his nephew, Pierre de Benoist in 2000.  This particular wine, a pinot noir – Mercurey Les Montots – is situated on a south facing slope outside the town of Mercurey.  Helpful further particulars canContinue reading “Domaine A et P de Villaine Mercurey Les Montots 2007”

Simonnet-Febvre Crémant de Bourgogne Brut NV

For less than $20, there’s some good sparkling wine to be had here from Simonnet-Febvre. CrĂ©mant de Bourgogne is made using the traditional method (i.e. the same method as used in Champagne), but is made outside of the Champagne region, in this case in Burgundy.  The blend is 60% chardonnay and 40% pinot noir.  Continue reading “Simonnet-Febvre CrĂ©mant de Bourgogne Brut NV”
