This wine is from top producer By Farr. By Farr is a cool climate pinot noir specialist located outside of Geelong in Victoria, Australia in Bannockburn. They regularly produce pinot noir in a Burgundian style, a common comparison, but one which I do not use lightly. The wine shone in a bracket of wines that was of a very high standard. Bannockburn has a tiny cluster of top pinot noir producers, among them, By Farr, Lethbridge and Bannockburn itself.   The 2010 vintage of By Farr’s “Sangreal” has a dark colour and opens to brooding aromas of spice, clove and red fruits.  The palate is complex, towards full bodied and has long length on the finish.  It reminds of a top example from Oregon or a  more expressive vintage premier cru from the Cote de Nuits.   Drink this outstanding wine at its peak now, and over the next 5 to 6 years.  Review Rating: Very Good to Outstanding (★★★★☆, 94 points).
