There is one fine wine in Australia that can be found at very low prices, and that is Australian riesling. The average quality is very high and mostly they improve with age without effort. The pinnacles are in the Clare and Eden Valleys. But there are good rieslings made in most Australian wine regions, that are not hot climate. These include Henty in western Victoria, Great Southern in Western Australia and the jasmine scented rieslings of the Canberra region. This wine is from western Victoria near the Grampians and from top producer, Mount Langi Ghiran. It’s a region with a handful of riesling producers. This wine at 17 years of age and modest price is drinking well. It has aromas lemon pith and a kerosene character. The palate is dry, with high acidity framing its tertiary expressions of stone and lemon. It isn’t particularly toasty. For a $20 wine in the day, this is very good. Drink now.
