This is a high quality Douro wine from Vallado in Portugal. It is a dry blend of the Port varieties of touriga nacional (25%), touriga franca (25%) and contributions from tinta roriz (tempranillo), tinta barroca and sousao. As with some (or is it many?) other Portuguese wines, it is easier to remember the region than the grape varieties. In the glass, it is full bodied, very tannic and brooding. It retains the special Douro character of being headily fruited but not savoury rather than fruity in expression. A contribution from oak, medium length and good balance overall make this wine both approachable now and capable of improving with cellaring of a further 3 or 4 years.
