At 34 years of age, this is a Margaret River cabernet from what seems like another time and in fact is from another century. It has survived rather well, particularly considering it was produced in Leeuwin Estate’s fledgling third commercial vintage. It resembles an old left bank Bordeaux in style in the glass, carrying well its years and its modest 12.7% alcohol. A graceful Haut-Médoc from a fifth growth or good cru bourgeois just holding on perhaps. Blackcurrant, earth, cigar box and good length, this is a delicate wine from Leeuwin Estate nearing its dotage but still providing much enjoyment.
