Topper’s Mountain Red Earth Child 2012

I will hazard a guess that this is the only blend of tempranillo, tannat, nebbiolo and barbera on Australian shelves.  This blend not only combines grape varieties not usually combined, but traverses the traditions of three countries (Spain, Italy and France) in doing so.  A sort of fusion wine.  Happily, this is not the sort of experimental wine where the forest is lost through the trees – the blend works rather well and achieves harmony in the glass.  Its aromatics remind of earth, licorice, flowers, tar and cedar.  The palate is noticeably fresh with a medium body and length.  Overall, a balanced wine that will suit food.  Good
