Cullen Diana Madeline 2012

The 2012 Cullen Diana Madeline is a blend of cabernet sauvignon (73%), merlot (17%) and cabernet franc (7%).  Tasted blind, that fair yet unkind tasting method, this is a perfectly pleasant cool climate expression of a cabernet sauvignon blend.  However, it was a substantial surprise that this was the esteemed Diana Madeline.  To call a spade a spade, this wine looks overrated.  The 2012 Diana Madeline has aromatics that remind of mint, blackcurrant, spearmint and clove.  The palate is balanced, the wine medium bodied, and its blackcurrant and clove flavours are youthful if unyielding at this early stage of its life.  Good
