I’m yet to taste any truly benchmark sangiovese grown on Australian soil, but at their best locally, they are crafted in what I would call an intermediate medium bodied style with cherry flavours dominant and gentle (for the variety) tannins. This sangiovese from Angullong falls into that category, and I think sits comfortably alongside some of the better Australian examples. The 2013 release has aromatics of cherry, earth and licorice. The palate has medium length and is balanced. A nice wine ready to drink now. G
