Ben Glaetzer’s Bishop is a wine that I have enjoyed over the years.  This wine – the 2012 vintage on current retail shelves – had the misfortune of being tasted shortly before (for note purposes) and then during a meal of Indian food.  I expect that this has coloured my judgement as I felt the acidity on the palate poked out a little, and the finish seemed a little too spicy.  The impact of food, and well mood, on the perceived balance of wine can be overdone – I subscribe to the theory that most wines go with most foods most of the time – but I suspect that Indian food does push the friendship.

The aromatics of Glaetzer’s 2012 Bishop are quite pronounced and remind of plum, pepper, spice and cherry liqueur.  The palate has medium length and bright fruits in the plum and dark cherry spectrum.  As mentioned, the acid features a little, and the finish is spicy.  Just slightly off key for this label but perhaps affected by context.  But nonetheless a good wine.
