Les Tourelles de Longueville is a wine that I return to time and time again (I’ve written up the ’07, ’96 and ’90).  It’s an excellent wine, and a label which I shall be buying more of for the cellar.  The 2008 vintage is no exception, rivalling at times its elder sibling the 2008 Baron Pichon, which I reviewed only a couple of weeks ago (here’s that review).  Its profile in the glass is classic Bordeaux and Pauillac in particular.  It has very attractive aromatics of blackcurrant, earth and cedar.  These aromatics carry through to the palate and some fine grained tannins emerge after some time in the glass to add interest.  And then there’s very long length on the finish.  Overall, this wine has balance, great length and complexity and is a great success in the 2008 vintage.  And interestingly for Bordeaux of this quality level it is bottled under screwcap, which is a great development from a peace of mind point of view.
