Ross Hill Pinnacle Series Cabernet Franc 2012

Cabernet franc is not regularly seen as a single varietal wine in Australia, so it’s a bit exciting to see a cabernet franc from the Orange region.  The aromatics of this wine from Ross Hill from the 2012 vintage remind of cedar, tobacco, strawberry, mint, clove and dusty gravel.  The palate has medium length (perhaps a bit more), powdery tannins with some wood influence, a medium body, and the tobacco, mint and cedar flavours carry through.  Overall, this is a balanced expression of cabernet franc with some hints of some complexity and a life ahead of it and will benefit from a couple of years in bottle.

Rating: Good, Abv: 14.5%, Price: $40, Source: sample, Vendors: http://www.wine-searcher.com/, Website: http://www.rosshillwines.com.au, Tasted: 2014

Well, that sounds a great tasting. I'd love to benchmark some of the Aussie non-cab sauvignon offerings, so look forward to your thoughts.CheersSean

I'm looking forward to including this in a forthcoming tasting titled \”Franc & Friends', a look at Bordeaux varieties (with the exception of the grand daddy, King Cab – it gets enough airplay on its own).Good wine from past vintages tasted.
