Yelland & Papps Vin de Soif 2012

Yelland & Papps is the label from Susan Yelland and Michael Papps whom have been producing wines in the Barossa Valley since 2005.  Their Vin de Soif from the 2012 vintage is a blend of 65% grenache and 27% mourvedre with the balance made up by shiraz (5%) and carignan (2%).  It’s a deep ruby colour in the glass, with aromatics of fresh spices, plums and red and black blackberries.  The palate has medium length, the acid shows a bit and the flavours are primarily expressions of red plums, redcurrant and some blackberries.  It lacks heaviness but is warming.  The tannins are soft, and there’s a savoury character that’s of interest.  This is a food wine and comes together harmoniously to cut through and balance a plate of freshly made pasta with olive oil.
