Yering Station Village Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

2011 was a poor vintage generally in the Yarra Valley, but this wine rises above its circumstances.  Quite light in colour for the thick skinned cabernet sauvignon grape, it nonetheless achieves attractive aromatics of cedar, blackcurrant and clove.  These aromatics carry through to the palate, and there is medium length on the finish to round things out.  This wine is really quite balanced and enjoyable, reminding of left bank Bordeaux and is ready to drink now.  This is one of the better 2011s I’ve tasted from this region.

Rating: Good, Abv: 13%, Price: $24, Vendors: www.wine-searcher.com, Website: http://www.yering.com, Tasted: 2014
