In Australia, we are fortunate to have consumer statutory protections for faulty goods, which would include wine that is adversely affected by cork taint. Usually, I do not trouble retailers with my corked wine purchases, mostly on the grounds that collecting receipts ostensibly lacks the same enjoyment as collecting wine. But on this occasion I had recently purchased two not inexpensive wines that were irredeemably corked from two different retailers. Credit where it is due: Wine Star and Nicks Wine Merchant both promptly offered a refund without so much as a quibble. I suspect it is not always this easy.
