A village wine from the prestigious Vosne-Romanée appellation in the Côte de Nuits, Joseph Faiveley’s 2010 underachieved a little for my palate.  It is a pale intensity ruby colour in the glass and has aromatics of simple cherries, stones and some earth.  The palate is dry, has towards high acidity, light tannins, and an agreeable enough expression of cherry and spice.  The finish is mostly short, but it does get a little longer with time in the glass.  However, it never quite unfurls.  Overall, I feel this to be a rather simple village Vosne-Romanée wine albeit a wine that is certainly perfectly pleasant drinking and verges on pretty at times.  However, at $90, it lacks the complexity and interest offered by much of the new vanguard of Australian (and New Zealand) pinot noir at this price point and, through the same lens, reminds of an entry level pinot noir offering.  Acceptable
