Dönnhoff Tonschiefer Trocken Riesling 2009

I confess that part of this particularly good riesling went into a sauce.  There may be other more sensible schools of thought on this, but why risk a sauce for fine food with a bad wine?

This riesling is quite aromatic, sweet smelling, with scents of candied lemon zest, and oranges.  Despite being labelled as “Trocken” and the front label saying “Dry Slate”, the palate is not in fact dry.  It is off dry, I would suggest.  It has really quite good length, and some depth and interest in its lemon and lime flavours.  It provides a welcome respite from overly bony and austere styles of riesling.  Excellent drinking.  Good
