Bimbadgen’s signature semillon is Bimbadgen’s premium semillon offering, with a bottle able to double as a steel support. The rain and poor conditions which blighted many of Australia’s regions in 2011 somehow seemed not to do the same in the Hunter Valley, and so I looked forward to this wine.
The 2011 semillon from Bimbadgen is bright, and a pale intensity lemon in colour. It has medium intensity aromatics of lemon citrus, lemon pith, straw and some pears, and is youthful. The palate is dry with medium(+) acid, quite a light body and medium intensity flavours of stones, minerals, and lemon citrus again. I would have liked a bit more zip/edge on the palate to draw everything together and perhaps alleviate a certain plainness, but this is nonetheless a pleasant wine. This wine, I think, is ready to drink from now, and is a balanced wine to drink over the next few years. Acceptable to Good
