Balgownie Cabernet Sauvignon 1976

Balgownie was established by Stuart Anderson in 1969, and was one of the first vineyards planted in the Bendigo region for more than 80 years.  It was therefore a pleasure to be given the opportunity to try one of Stuart Anderson’s earlier vintages – the 1976 cabernet sauvignon.  This wine would seem to challenge the notion that young vines don’t make good wine.  In fact, it would seem to carefully propel the concept into the sixth row.  Because, at 35 years of age, this wine has everything you could ask for in an aged cabernet – structure, graceful fruit, length and balance.  Herbs, menthol and spices were there by way of fragrance.  Ageless length and balanced acidity on the palate.  An absolute classic.  Outstanding
