Port Phillip Estate Shiraz 2007

I am usually slightly apprehensive reviewing shiraz from the Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula as they can tend to be a mixed bag – tending towards underripe, or when ripe, uninteresting.

This wine is really quite good, and reminded me of a slightly lesser version of Shaw and Smith’s very good Adelaide Hills shiraz (a shiraz I rate very highly).  Deeply coloured, this wine has an aroma of green peppercorns and herbs.  On the palate, it is full bodied, with quite long length and plummy notes.  90 points (extremely good).
